Vote & Molt~!
On election day, I arrived at Arlington High School by 6:40 AM, about twenty minutes before the polls opened. The line was already almost a hundred people deep and while I stood there waiting until seven o'clock, almost a hundred more people arrived. I was pretty surprised when I quickly made it into the gym. This voting location actually serves two precincts - and the vast majority of the people in front of me went to rockin' the right table while I broke left. (Side question: If you're not allowed to wear political buttons/hats/shirts inside the polling place, what about the students? They were walking around with Obama gear on their bookbags.)

I was surprised that in the Senate Race (Coleman/Franken) and Congressional Races (Paulsen/Madia) and (Bachmann/Tinklenberg) - all three (currently) went Republican. I would have bet against that trifecta pretty hardily. I am disappointed with the result in CD6, especially when Bob Anderson is listed as an "Independence" candidate when El was actually endorsed by that party as well as the DFL. Michelle Bachmann shot herself in the foot weeks before the election and demonstrated why she's such a terrible representative of the state of Minnesota, the Republican party and the sixth district.

I am not surprised Obama won the presidency. McCain missed opportunities such as announcing who he would nominate as Cabinet members which would have potentially given people something to think about. Even the Economist, normally a fairly conservative magazine, endorsed Obama. As did Chris Rock.

(Choice quote from that interview)
ROCK: Um, you know what? I’m proud Barack Obama’s running for president. You know? If it was Flavor Flav, would I be proud? No. I don’t support Barack Obama because he’s black.

I was rooting for Al Franken, myself.

Looks like he was just shy, eh?

the margin is 200+ votes. It'll be recounted. We'll know in about 3 months. Eek.

Wilson High School, the school I teach at, was a polling place. To answer your question, no, kids are not allowed to have endorsement materials as well as voters. The principal came on the announcements and had to tell the kids why. Many were confused, but begrudgingly complied because it was a federal law. Of course, this all could have been avoided had she told everyone a couple days prior to the election!
