An Expanded Version...
I've been pretty tired lately. It's been a whirlwind month.
At the end of September, my buddy Mark from Rochester came out to visit for several days. I took some time off work and took him around the Twin Cities to the obligatory Mall of America & Stevie Ray's Improv. About a week after that, my parents came up and stayed with us for a week. I took some more time off work and took them around the Twin Cities including the Mall of America & Stevie Ray's Improv. It was a lot of fun having them in town and Meliora greatly enjoyed spending time with more people! Additionally, I've been teaching a fun Improv II class each Tuesday evening.
On Thursday, Alissa & I woke up around 5 AM in order for her to make it to an early-morning Blaine event. I headed into work and had a day of straight meetings from 8 AM to 5 PM. I went home and continued working on my presentation until about a little before Midnight. Friday morning was 3.5 hour meeting that MBA was running about important customers. Because Alissa has been working every day, and usually late into the night, and I was performing at Stevie's, we needed to drop Meliora off at Doggy Daycare for the evening. It was not a good morning to oversleep. My groggy state must have lead me to hit the snooze button until 7:40 when I awoke. Given that I still had to bring Mel AND drive the hour to work, I was pretty nervous that I'd make my 9 AM meeting with CFO, VPs and Company CEO. Luckily, I had emailed the presentation late the night before so I wasn't hopeless. I barely made it in before the marathon session. Overall, things went well but it was a tiring experience. Friday's show was decent & I won the HECA which brought me great personal joy. With no dog at home to worry about, and Alissa out with friends for a late-night campaign dinner, I had a nice time at TGIFs with the crew.
Saturday was a nice opportunity for Alissa & I to spend the morning together. I woke up around 7:30 to pick up Mel from Dog Days in St. Paul, and we came back home. I don't remember doing much before going to Improv that evening while Alissa was off at work. I had a great show on Saturday night (RAP~!) and was asked to host to Outtakes. I imagine it'll be a few months before I host them again because my game definately slipped this time (especially compared to their last show which Jason described as their best ever). Another fun night at TGIFs with plenty of "That's what She Said" and very little drinking (mainly due to a slow-slow-slow waiter).
Sunday was another morning that Alissa & I could spend together. We went to the Wild Onion for a delicious 11 AM breakfast (they don't open until then) and stopped by CostCo to buy Alissa's mum a birthday present. For some reason the machines weren't accepting AmEx and combined with the stinging snow particles flying through the air, it was a frustrating run in the parking lot. We came home, Alissa went to work and I hung out with Puppy until about 7:30 when I decided to go to Improv-A-Go-Go.
This week is actually my two-year anniversary of when I first visited the Brave New Workshop. I remember it well because Tim (Dr. Goodwin) called to tell me Becky from Iron Cobra was performing. Last night, I was telling Vic (Not Budget but Avis) about this show, and he laughed because he was at the show too. We both remembered the "Clownprov". There was more last night.
My favorite two acts were "The Adventures of Tim & Troy" (Tim H. & Troy Z.) and "Lounge-a-saurus Rex" (Michael Erickson & Tom Reed). I remembered one of the TAOT&T pair from the ComedySportz show I went to a few weeks ago. Michael plays keyboard for us at Stevie Rays and Tom performs on the other team. I loved the sense of play with both groups - it was worth a lot more than a dollar of fun. Clownprov was better than the group I saw two years ago; Josh cracked me up with us ridiculous outfit and his straight delivery. I liked the circular nature that One Decent Channel invoked with body parts reacting to a hot dog eating contest versus the organs being frozen to reach "the other side". Tom is a fantastic singer; he'd be a huge hit in Lankytown (Chicago) with his tremendous voice & fine good looks w/ chains.
I'm beat. I'm tired. I don't know what to do with myself when I'm at home with Meliora. But I'm glad not to be working like a madman. I'm reading Bret Hart's autobiography and playing through the Dragon Quest IV remake for the DS. It's a fine life. Rock.
