Two years with Stevie Ray!
Yesterday, after I finished teaching my class, I arrived at the Stevie Ray "Improv in the Park" celebration where I was surprised by an ovation and the closing screens of a laptop presentation. It was celebrating the inaugural award for "The Mookie" which is presented for "Outstanding Achievement in Hosting". At the start of August, I performed my improv mini-tour which included Teaching Tim's Level II class on Thursday, performing at the Cabaret on Friday, hosting both the 8 pm Cabaret show and 10 pm Outtakes show on Saturday and running & hosting both the 5 pm Park show and 7 pm Park show. My major contributions to "Art and Artifice of Hosting" was (brace yourself) creating two separate showlists and even adding minute-by-minute game estimates. This might sound obsessive and anal, and it was.
Part of the conundrum that is me, is that while I am messy & disorganized in other aspects of my life, when it comes to certain amounts of list-making or planning, I'm actually pretty particular. For example, I've keep detailed records of many of the classes that I've taught just in case I'm asked to do something similar again. Or I am excellent at tallying all the ballots for the DVDVR Best of the 80s projects which has earned me the "Official Stat Geek" title for that message board.
So, I am honored by my rocking new prize - even named in my honor. It will go besides my TWO crystal bowling pins (earned for "KNOCKING DOWN THE PINS" at work) and be cherished. Who will be nominated for next year's award? Will I help select the winner? Or shall I win my own award once again in some kind of Newsradio Matthew Brock fashion? TIME WILL ONLY TELL!
In excellent timing news: Today is my two-year anniversary of my time with Stevie Ray's. Sunday in auditions so this is bolstering my confidence to finally try to keep an accent up for an entire three minute scene. Huzzah~!
