Would you give?
My buddy Frank is a wonderful guy. He is working with a wonderful organization. There is a serious opportunity to bring a substantial donation for "Hands on DC" simply by having the largest number of contributors (not largest amount of money, largest number of unique donors). Would you and could you donate $10 for this group?
Please give it a thought.

Hey Friends and Family,
Now normally (as you know) I don't directly solicit you for anything-even though I have been volunteering with Hands on DC for a while. I figure if you wanted to participate, you would, and that's quite alright that you don't.
This, however, is a rather unique opportunity we have here and so I'm compelled to ask (just asking) if you can help.
The contest is detailed below, but it basically works like this:
1.) You donate ten dollars to hands on DC through the link here:
http://www.networkforgood.org/pca/Badge.a spx?BadgeId=109440
2.) The contest awards $50,000 to the top four teams that have the most unique donors. That's right, it's not about how much money we make but how many different people contribute to the cause. Actually the phrase is "Most unique donors' which leads me to believe they were going to judge you on your oddities and appearance (not that anyone could actually be more unique), but they mean the most number of different folks to contribute.
3.) Right now Stephen (who is one of our fundraising co-chairs) says that the fourth place group only has about 200 people so far-and that number hasn't changed in two weeks or so. Essentially, this is VERY doable for us. The contest goes through the end of the month, and so if you can donate $10 it could really mean a whole lot more to us then it normally does.
That's about it. I hope all of you are well, and if I haven't spoken to you in a while please drop a line. For those of you who have asked, "Yes, I do have some Stand-up dates set up now, and I"ll pass them along if you want."
If you want to find out more about the charity I work with you can visit http://www.handsondc.org.
Other than that, Happy New Year my lovely, lovely friends.

Hello Executive Committee,
Hands on DC has a very REAL opportunity to get $50,000! I need you to read this completely and act immediately. *Deep breath*
The Case Foundation is holding an online giving competition through Network for Good. The way it works is that the "individual" that gets the most donations for their charity will get a $50,000 award for their charity. Actually, it's the top FOUR donation-getters that will each get $50,000 for their charity! I (Stephen) am the token representative for HoDC. As part of the rules, I've created a "badge;" the link is below. The badge does NOT have my name on it; it's generic to Hands on DC. Therefore, all of us should direct donations through this badge for this contest. The rules actually encourage multiple people to direct their donors to one badge; we're not bending the rules or anything.
One thing to stress is that the amount of money you raise is not the important part of the competition. It's the group with the most unique donors that wins! Another important thing to stress is that donations must be $10 minimum.
Here's where it gets interesting. The challenge runs from Dec 13 - Jan 31. Right now, the top 4 organizations are local, grass-roots groups. The big organizations are not playing in this game. This contest was built for an organization just like Hands on DC, and WE CAN WIN THIS!! Again, we only have to strive to be number 4 to get the $50,000. The number four organization currently has 208 donors... and they've been at it since Dec 13th.
I signed us up last night at 8pm and we already have 16 donors. We have 21 days left... we are going to win! Here's the link to our badge
http://www.networkforgood.org/pca/Badge.a spx?BadgeId=109440
What I'm doing now:
We're going to put our badge on the Hands on DC website.
We are going to incorporate info about this contest in the individual giving campaign letters that we showed you on Wed.
We will send something to the Board of Directors too.
What you need to do now:
1) First, click on the link and donate. Just $10.
2) Second, we need for you to start e-mailing this badge (the link above) to your friends and family and ask them to donate. $10 is all they need to give. Send it to everyone! Think of it like this: The EC is not going to be collecting pledges for the work-a-thon, so this is our EC pledge drive.
3) Third, send this to other uber-HODC people that are not on the EC but will promote this just as hard.
Also know, since these pledges are going through Network for Good (NFG), we can check our NFG account online and see in real-time who has donated. Scott has stressed to some of his close friends that he is "checking the donor list frequently to make sure no one has a problem donating." :)
Again, this competition was made for groups like Hands on DC and we absolutely can win this!! This is not a lottery, this is not a scam. This is a legitimate competition, and we're going to win. Scott and Virginia have looked over the contest rules and concur. If you're interested, here's info on the contest -- http://www.parade.com/givingchallenge
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Time is ticking, so let's get started!!!
I really appreciate you taking the time to read this and please consider donating. Thanks! Rock.
