This morning I slept in until about 10 (after letting Mel out once at her normal 630 wakeup). I called Adam and we agreed to meet at The Original Pancake House (this one in Eden Prairie) and I ran outside to stop Mel from barking at the neighbor's son installing an exterior window. (I didn't put on socks, which meant I went to breakfast with bare ankles. Oh my temerity!) When I finally got there around 11:10 AM, I discovered that even the rich people love their pancakes so I had to put "MOOKIE" on the list for a 35 minute wait. I waited at the Dunn Bros. nearby for Adam to park at the library and join me for our discussion of Monday's sketches. (What? Yes, I am doing another pro bono publico - is there a con bono anonymouso? - gig for the Marketing Department as we, the improvisers of Marketing Business Analytics, use scripts to pretend to be brands of products such as TUBE FEEDS and ONCOLOGY FOOD. I should start documenting these things. For work, I've now performed improv at a Pathways (twice), on a boat, and now at our big monthly meeting. Except I'm no longer in the Marketing Department. But I'm digressing...) I had a peppermint drink at Dunn Bros. (which wasn't as good as my Peppermint Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks) and we arrived back at the OPH in time for our reservation. (Delicious food!) Then we carpooled to the Mall, walked around B&N, Gamespot and stared in disbelief at SMOKE 51 ("NO SECOND HAND SMOKE.. ON TAR... NO TOBACCO... NO CARBON MONOXIDE.. JUST THE NICOTINE.." - real tagline). Basically, imagine if you created an electronic cigarette and then bought a mall kiosk. I can totally imagine the investors for this looking at the demographics (45 million Americans smoke, 23 States strongly limit smoking in public places & resturants - imagine a SAFE alternative - the marketplace is huge, la la la). Just shook out heads; neither of us smoke. On the way back I discovered greatness - "GARFIELD MINUS GARFIELD" (the great blog) is now a book. Best thing Jim Davis has done in ages is authorizing this! When I got home, I listened to the radio I realized I enjoyed songs by Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Rihanna (or this one or this one). (On the flip side, hearing T-Pain rhyme "Mansion" by calling it "Wiscansin" just makes me groan like a bad pun. I also heard a song using samples from the Maury "You're not the Father" episodes - but I can't locate it online. I don't think it's the one by Baltimore Club.) When I got home, I took Mel for a walk.
Yesterday, Tim & Jason & I checked out the improv show. I'm really glad that I had an opportunity to spend the evening out. This weekend is the anniversary of Brian's murder and it's always a very difficult time for me emotionally. There was a lot of trauma associated with that event and I know that it was very impactful on the way I've grown up in the past four years. Alissa's ability to be supportive and loving through that situation was very important. I also learned a lot about grief, mourning and depression which I hadn't really understood. So, it's always good when I can spend the evening out with some other people as opposed to home alone. (Alissa has her last weekend at Graduate School for this semester.) We also got to visit Al's which is a neat place (our buddy Kevin slings drinks there). ROCK |
